PROGRAM DETAILS
3-year Systematic Program of Learning
Apprentices can obtain all essential knowledge and skills necessary for becoming a Telecommunications Installer/Technician
4,800 Hours of On-the-Job Training
Apprentices train to proficiency in all o the skills required to install, maintain, and troubleshoot various systems associated with voice, data, and video.
480 Hours of Related Study (minimum)
Apprentices will study theories relating to all job tasks important to the trade. Classroom time incorporates the latest technology of blended learning, combining hands-on training with online, instructional lessons to reinforce concepts taught by the instructors.
Applications open in January 2024. Inside apprenticeship applications will open January 8 - January 19. Applications will be available Monday through Friday 8 am - 3:30 pm. Monday January 8th and Tuesday January 9th the applications will be available 8 am - 7 pm. Telecommunications apprenticeship applications will open January 22 - February 2. Applications will be available Monday through Friday 8 am - 3:30 pm. Monday January 22nd and Tuesday January 23rd the applications will be available 8 am - 7 pm.

Qualification for Apprenticeship
1.
Be a minimum of 18 years of age
2.
Complete an application form
3.
Be at least a high school graduate, or have a GED, or have a two-year Associate Degree or higher
4.
Show evidence of successful completion of one full year of high school algebra with a passing grade, or one post-high school algebra course with a passing grade.
5.
Provide an official transcript for high school and post-high school education and training. All GED records must be submitted, if applicable.
6.
Submit a DD-214 to verify military training and /or experience if you are a veteran and wish to receive consideration for such training/experience.
7.
Qualify for interview using the Electrical Trade’s Aptitude Test developed and validated by the American Institutes for Research.
8.
Present evidence that you possess a valid driver’s license/current photo.
9.
Have been a resident of the geographical jurisdiction of Local Union 117 (McHenry County and the Northern 9 Townships of Kane County, Illinois) for 12 months.
10.
Supply an official copy of your birth certificate.
11.
Speak, read, and comprehend the English language.
12.
Supply a copy of your originally issued or official duplicate, Social Security Card.
13.
Supply all documents in English or they must be translated by a certified translator.
14.
Prior to being indentured, applicants selected from the pool of interviewed applicants will be required to pass a physical examination and a drug test as decided by the JATC.
15.
Individuals who can verify (proper documentation required) that they have worked a minimum of eight-thousand (8,000) hours specifically in the electrical construction trade, do not need to meet the requirements of items (3) and (4).
16.
Individuals who have worked a minimum of eight-thousand (8,000) hours as a Residential Wireman under an IBEW/NECA local Collective Bargaining Agreement (proper documentation required), do not need to meet the requirements of items (3) and (4).
17.
Individuals who have completed at least 3 years of related instruction and 4,500 hours of OJT as indentured apprentices in a properly registered electrical construction apprenticeship program not sponsored by IBEW/NECA (proper documentation required), do not need to meet the requirements of items (3) and (4).
18.
The first 100 applicants who meet all basic requirements will be considered by the Committee; as the demand for apprentices increases, the pool will be increased proportionately.
