JOURNEYMAN SCAFFOLD BUILDER I
ZACHRY is currently seeking a Journeyman Scaffold Builder I for Maintenance work.
Position Summary
A Journeyman Scaffold Builder I will assist and support the safe, quality, and efficient completion of various tasks related to scaffold maintenance work being performed at a petrochemical processing plant, including but not limited to:
Craft specific scaffold labor
Preparation, transportation, erection, modification, disassembly, and storing of various scaffolding types (systems) in and around industrial equipment such as piping, boilers, towers, vessels, tanks, exchangers, reactors, pumps, etc.
Providing support services such but not limited to firewatch, holewatch, bottlewatch, light equipment/vehicle operation, material kitting/delivery, general housekeeping, etc. as needed.

Up to 7 days per week
Overtime, call-out, etc. as required
Must be capable of working under the direction of a skilled Leadman and under the supervision of an experienced Foreman.
Must possess proven qualifications, experience, and tested knowledge on the safe design, erection, and disassembly (in adherence with applicable OSHA standards) of various scaffolding systems (types) and materials.
Must be well versed on safe work practices while performing scaffolding services in and around operating units located within a petrochemical facility.
Must be capable of leading and mentoring other crew members such as helpers, apprentices, and Journeymen II.
Must possess skills and ability to preplan, coordinate, and order material for specific jobs/activities/tasks.
Must have an aptitude for scaffold equipment/materials/techniques and have effective computing, literacy, and numeracy skills.
Must possess all required tools to perform scaffold related activities.
Will be expected to assist other crafts when not actively performing scaffolding activities.
Must be experienced with and/or capable of successfully completing all required training/qualifications necessary to oversee safety-sensitive work which includes but is not limited to the preparation, set-up, and execution of hot work, confined space entry, and fresh air work.
Must be experienced with and/or capable of successfully completing all required training/qualifications necessary to utilize all related tools, apparatuses, equipment, etc. to execute safety-sensitive work which includes but is not limited to the preparation, set-up, and execution of hot work and confined space entry work.
Must be capable of reading, understanding, and adhering to restrictions and/or requirements of various types of work permits and/or JSAs.
Must successfully complete Short Service Employee (SSE) program, if applicable.
Must successfully complete a 90-day probationary period. Any disciplinary and/or attendance issues during this time will be grounds for termination.
Must maintain satisfactory bi-annual evaluation scores of no less than 3.0. Unsatisfactory bi-annual evaluation scores of less than 3.0 for two consecutive cycles will result in disciplinary action, up to termination, for poor performance.
Position Responsibilities
Must have a strong approach, understanding, and commitment to safety, quality, and efficiency in an industrial environment.
Must be capable of and will be expected to perform pre-task hazard assessments to identify potential risks and implement pro-active elimination and/or mitigation techniques.
Must be capable of reading and comprehending industrial/engineered drawings such as but not limited to blueprints, sketches, plans, P&ID, etc. to determine scope of work, locations, required tools/equipment, and bill of materials to execute activities.
Must actively participate and support site programs such as (at a minimum):
Safe Catch/Quality Catch/Stop Work Authority
Continuous Improvement (SMART Focus)
Applicable customer initiatives/programs
General craft specific scaffold knowledge

Preferred Qualifications
Current or Former Zachry Employee with acceptable ESR rating only.
Reports to Position
This position does not have any direct reports; however, candidates will be expected to work closely with and mentor helper, apprentice, and/or Journeyman II positions.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) Performance Verified (PV) certification for Scaffold Builder.
Must have a minimum score of 81% on the Zachry Craft Assessment test pre-employment.
Must have a minimum of 4 years applicable experience in the Scaffold Builder trade in an industrial and/or construction project.
Acceptable Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) and valid Driver’s License.
Must be capable of successfully completing all required training/qualifications necessary to operate Ariel Work Platforms (AWP) such as but not limited to manlifts, scissor lifts, etc. as well as material handling equipment such as forklifts.
Must be capable of successfully completing all required training/qualifications of Person Leading Work (PLW).
Must have experience using industrial hand and power tools in an industrial work environment.
Must possess good problem-solving abilities and an agile mindset.
Must possess general aptitude for mechanical equipment, have effective computing, literacy, and numeracy skills, and manual dexterity.
Must possess the ability to work effectively with others in a team environment.
Must possess effective communication skills (written and/or verbal) with co-workers, supervisors, and customer.
Must possess a strong commitment/understanding of Zachry and customer core values, safety rules, and regulations.
Must possess and maintain a valid TWIC card for the duration of employment.
Must successfully complete and maintain applicable Safety Council and/or Site-Specific credentials for the duration of employment.
Physical Requirements
Employee will be required to adhere to large amounts of standing, walking, cycling, bending, squatting, lifting, and physically demanding work.
Must have good dexterity with hands and fingers to perform the precision adjustments of machinery parts and controls.
Will use arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push, and pull objects, materials, controls, and tools.
Must be capable of lifting, carrying, and moving up to 50lbs.
Must be capable and comfortable working at extreme heights on fixed, temporary, and/or mobile platforms.
Must be capable and comfortable working within confined spaces to include but not limited to tanks, vessels, pits, excavations, etc.
Will use vision abilities to focus, see short and long distances, colors, depth perception and peripheral vision.
Must be capable of working outside in the elements including but not limited to the heat, cold, rain, snow, and wind; and must be able to work for long period of times up to 12 hours a day.
Will be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to: hard hat, safety glasses/goggles, ear plugs/muffs, masks/respirators, safety vests, gloves, chemical suits, and steel-toe boots.
Must be clean shaven.
