Starting Salary: $55,985
Pay progressively increases to $83,485 as apprentices advance through the training program. Upon successful completion of the training program, apprentices advance to Lineman with a salary of $98,220.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
•Must successfully pass the Electrical Training Alliance Aptitude Test (formerly known as the American Institute of Research (AIR) examination).
•Practice tests available at http://www.electricaltrainingalliance.org/SamplePage.
•Must successfully pass a 4-day climbing assessment, which includes the following:
•climbing 90 foot wood poles with climbing hooks and safety belts;
•climbing 75-135 foot steel poles with step bolts and safety belts;
•potential inclement weather during summer or winter.
•Must successfully pass an Isokinetic Assessment (physical assessment of joints and weight).
•Electrical experience or working around linemen desired.
JOB EXPECTATIONS
•Will not be required to relocate, as this position is 100% travel across the Tennessee Valley.
•In most cases you will be away from home a minimum of four nights per week and sometimes for weeks at a time.
•Per diem at approximately $124 per day will be given to pay for lodging and meals if you are traveling more than 40 miles from your home.
•Work hours are 6:00am - 4:30pm CST Monday - Thursday
•Will be required to work in close proximity to voltages up to 500kv
•Must be willing to work at heights
•Most aerial work is 80ft up to 400ft
•Must be willing to work a physically demanding job
•Could be required to lift up to 75lbs
•Must be willing to work outdoors 100% of the time
•Must be willing to work in extreme weather conditions
•Must be willing to work on rough terrain such as gravel and mud
•Must be willing to respond to storm or system damage with minimal notice
•Will be required to learn how to operate equipment including but not limited to JLGs, bucket trucks, forklifts, and booms lifts
PROGRAM DETAILS
To remain in the program, must successfully complete on-the-job training, self-study bookwork, classroom training, and oral, written, and practical exams.
DUTIES
Assists the journeyman lineman in simple functions connected with servicing and maintaining transmission and distribution lines. As his/her experience and ability increase, the work will be varied to include more responsible phases of line work.
It is his/her duty and responsibility to observe all safety regulations and protect his/her fellow employees and the public from hazardous conditions under his control.
He/she is required to complete satisfactorily certain technical and non-technical related training.
QUALIFICATIONS
a) Some previous experience in electrical work is desirable.
b) The incumbent should be a high school graduate or its equivalent and must attain a satisfactory score on the Electrical Training Alliance Aptitude Test to qualify for the lineman apprenticeship program.

Supervisor gives detailed instructions on work to be performed and checks completed work.
