About this Role
This journey-level equivalent position, under continuing supervision, inspects, diagnoses, repairs, and performs maintenance on construction, transmission, distribution and support vehicles, trucks, and equipment.
Distinguishing Characteristics of a Mechanic:
The Mechanic works under general supervision within existing guidelines such as standard operating procedures, technical manuals, blueprints and schematics. This position performs routine maintenance and preventive maintenance independently. Knowledge of automotive electrical theory, systems, and repairs; hydraulic theory, systems and repairs; and other motorized mechanical equipment is required. The ability to interpret equipment specifications and repair manuals is required. The ability to work in a team environment that interacts effectively with customers and parts staff is required.

What You’ll Do
Examples of Work:
•Inspects, diagnoses, and repairs mechanical, electrical and hydraulic defects in gasoline, diesel, LNG, and electric-powered equipment such as automobiles, trucks, backhoes, vactors, and other special equipment associated with transmission, distribution, and construction trades.
•Disassembles and overhauls all types of LNG, gasoline, and diesel engines, light and heavy-duty components, transmission, rear ends, and brake systems.
•Repairs pumps, lights, steering gears, and generators.
•Aligns wheels, adjusts brakes, and performs other mechanical or electrical adjustments.
•Opens works orders; accurately enters time worked, materials used, and provides detailed repair notes; closes work orders.
•Performs scheduled preventive maintenance and regulatory inspections on vehicles and equipment.
•Utilizes computerized diagnostic equipment to determine repairs and maintenance required.
•Road tests vehicles, as necessary, to verify compliance with safety standards regulatory repairs.
•Performs other related duties of a comparable level/type as assigned.
What You’ll Bring
Minimum Qualifications:
•Requires the ability to work in a team environment.
•Requires four years working under a journey-level automotive mechanic or completion of an accredited apprenticeship program (or a combination of education and/or training and/or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the examples of work listed above).
Work Environment/Physical Demands:
•Exposure to exhaust fumes, volatile chemicals, and hazardous substances.
•Required to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
•Required to frequently lift 5-80 pounds.
•May require working outdoors in all types of weather. Some positions require working evenings.
Licensing and Other Requirements:
•A current State of Washington driver’s license.
