The Industrial Electrician is responsible for providing electrical, instrumentation and programming support to the District’s Maintenance and Operations groups. The Electrician ensures that both the District’s and select customer communities power distribution, electrical and instrumentation equipment is well maintained and functioning properly and reliably. The Electrician will be working on equipment at the District’s wastewater treatment plant and pumping stations, and select customer communities pumping stations located throughout the District’s service area in Dane County.
We are looking for either a journey Industrial Electrician, or someone who is looking to go through an electrical apprenticeship. The Apprentice Electrician will become an Industrial Electrician through attending classes at Madison Area Technical College. The Industrial Electrician Apprentice Program takes 4 years to be completed and the District pays for all school related expenses. The apprentice will attend class one day every 2 weeks for 8h and is otherwise trained on the job. During the apprenticeship call outs are more frequent for learning purposes with a journey electrician and average about 10 per year. The Industrial Electrician works under the general direction of the Electrical Maintenance Supervisor.

Through these programs, the District recycles and returns to the environment clean water, generates renewable energy and recovers nutrients for agricultural uses. Salary Information
The Industrial Electrician has the opportunity to grow into a more skilled position with a tiered compensation system by completing steps within the progression plan for the position.
The salary ranges are as follows:
Apprentice 1: $65,592.80 - $73,309.60
Apprentice 2: $69,451.20 - $77,168.00
Journey Electrician: $73,309.60 - $81,026.40
Senior Journey Electrician: $77,168.00 - $84,884.80
Senior Journey Electrician 2: $81,026.40 - $88,743.20

Physical Demands & Work Environment - All individuals in the Electrician position must be able to:
•Climb stairs and ladders Work with his/her hands extended overhead.
•Operate small power tools including, but not limited to, drills, saws, and grinders.
•Use hand tools including, but not limited to, hammers, screwdrivers, pliers, and wrenches.
•Make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects.
•Safely operate motor vehicles.
•Stand for extended periods.
•Lift up to 50 pounds unassisted.
•Communicate with another person using a two-way radio and cell phone.
•Use appropriate safety equipment including a self-contained breathing apparatus.
•Distinguish between red, green, and yellow status indicators and color-coded wiring systems.
•Work in confined spaces. Interact with a computer system.
This position is not eligible for remote work, consistent with District policy.
Qualifications
Requirements Required:
•Registration as a journey Industrial electrician.
•Applicants who are not a journey industrial electrician will be hired as an Apprentice Industrial Electrician and will have to go through the registered apprentice program, as outlined above.
•Apprentice applicants must have basic math knowledge, critical thinking and problem-solving skills., and work experience that included the use of hand tools and power tools.
•Basic knowledge of electrical systems and wiring, and using diagnostic tools.
•A background that electrical maintenance, electrical construction or programmable logic controllers is desirable but not required. Must possess a valid driver’s license.
•Applicants must become certified in confined area entry procedures, CPR, and First Aid within the first six months of employment.
