Training description
Tool and Die makers play a valuable role in the manufacturing of machine parts that mold and aid innovation. As one of these specialty machinists, tool and diemakers can see the impact their career has in the world and in various industries.
The Tesla Tool & Die Apprenticeship Program at our Austin, TX factory is a unique opportunity for current Tesla Employees interested in on-the-job training program that will produce the next generation of specialists in the trade.
The selected apprentices will complete 8,000 hours of on-the-job training with a mentor while attending courses at Texas State Technical College. Courses are paid for by Tesla for selected apprentices.
At the completion of the program, apprentices will receive a federally recognized journey worker certification and stackable college certifications to apply towards the next level degree.

Tool & Die Apprentices will develop the necessary skills by shadowing mentors in the die build/tryout area.
•
Apprentices will perform the same tasks as mentors demonstrating progression in their abilities over a four-year period.

Tasks may include manual and CNC machining on mills and lathes; operating typical manual machines including but not limited to mills, lathes, drill presses, surface grinders, grinders, sanders, and saws; working with others to produce a wide variety of components and assemblies; performing equipment maintenance and repair; and ensuring a safe working environment and following safety requirements.

Strong mechanical aptitude and math skills (trigonometry)
•
Experience working with hand tools and welding (preferred)
•
Strong communication and writing abilities
•
The drive to excel in an academic and training environment
•
Capability of performing physical work which may require standing for extended periods of time and lifting objects of up to 50 pounds, on a regular basis
•
Skills to be developed: tool & die, metallurgy, welding, edm, cnc, lathe, milling, grinding, drilling, saw, layout and performing bench work
•
Must meet the eligibility requirements set forth by the company
