Electrician I Trainee: Under direct supervision, receives work experience and related training instruction in all phases of the Electrician occupation, including safe work practices, necessary to develop the skill and proficiency of a skilled Electrician professional. During the four-year term of apprenticeship, appropriately 576 hours of related training instruction through Hawkeye Community College and approximately 8000 hours of on-the-job learning is required before a completion certificate is awarded. Individual is required to sign an apprenticeship agreement in order to participate in the program.
Electrician I: Under direct supervision, applies knowledge, skills and abilities at the journey level to install and repair electrical systems and equipment (generally less than 600V).
Electrician II: Under general supervision, applies knowledge, skills and abilities at the journey level to install and repair electrical systems and equipment (generally less than 600V). Demonstrates Journeyman Electrician qualifications, training, experience and technical knowledge. Responsible for the coordination and accomplishment of maintenance, operations and modifications. Performs the duties characteristic to, and normally required in, the trade of electrician, following recognized procedures and techniques for such work. Utilizes special tools, equipment, and processes (such as insulation testers, thermal imaging cameras and Thermal/Infrared (TIR) Predictive Testing procedures) to collect, perform initial diagnostics, and respond to data through established guidelines for preventive and predictive maintenance to ensure equipment reliability.
Electrician III: Demonstrates Master Electrician qualifications, training, experience, and technical knowledge to properly plan, lay-out, and supervise the installation of electrical wiring, apparatus and equipment for light, heat, power and other purposes. Utilizes special equipment, tools and processes (such as power quality analyzers, insulation testers, thermal imaging cameras and Thermal/Infrared (TIR) Predictive Testing procedures) to collect, perform advanced diagnostics, analyze, and respond to data collected through established guidelines and procedures for preventive and predictive maintenance to ensure system reliability and system optimization.
This is a first shift position with a work schedule of Monday - Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (overtime possible for events & call-ins; evenings and weekends).
PAY GRADE: Electrician Trainee: Trainee Matrix 9; Electrician I: 10/4; Electrician II: 12/4; Electrician III: 14/4
STARTING HOURLY WAGE: Electrician Trainee: $18.65; Electrician I: $22.19; Electrician II: $24.26; Electrician III: $26.50 (Potential for higher starting wage based on qualifications.)
Required Qualifications:
Electrician I Trainee: High school diploma or equivalency prior to completion of the apprenticeship; possess a speaking and reading ability as essential for personal and coworker safety on the job; and ability to read and understand written or oral instructions. Must be at least 18 years old.
Electrician I: Requires State of Iowa Class A or B Journeyman Electrician license; and must possess a valid driver’s license and meet University’s Fleet Safety Program.
Electrician II: Requires State of Iowa Class A Journeyman Electrician license with at least four years as an apprentice plus two years of experience as a journeyman electrician; or State of Iowa Class B Journeyman Electrician license with eight years in the electrical trade in maintenance or construction; and must possess a valid driver’s license and meet University’s Fleet Safety Program.
Electrician III: Requires a State of Iowa Class A Master Electrician license with four years as an apprentice plus four years of experience as a journeyman electrician; or State of Iowa Class B Master Electrician license with ten years in the electrical trade in maintenance or construction; and must possess a valid driver’s license and meet University’s Fleet Safety Program.
