PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The maintenance, repair, and installation of air conditioning, heating, and building automation systems.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Certification/Education:
•High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
•Must have a valid Texas driver’s license and meet/maintain insurance requirements of PISD.
•Must pass a drug test and be part of a random drug testing program.
•Must pass a criminal history check.
•Hold an EPA Certification in refrigerant recovery (universal)
Special Knowledge/ Skills/Experience
•Must have a basic understanding of basic mechanical and HVAC principles.
•Ability to learn maintenance and repair techniques for antiquated and new HVAC systems.
•Ability to work well with peers and supervisors.
•Capable of making independent, on-the-spot, “safe to operate” decisions regarding the safety of students, staff, and the general public.
•Follow established safety procedures, and techniques to perform job duties.
•Capable of providing maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of commercial HVAC stems.
•General knowledge of tools used in designated craft.
•At least 2 years of job-related experience or 1-year experience with 15 hours of technical courses relative to the designated craft
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
•Installation, maintenance, and repair of commercial HVAC equipment and BAS systems.
•Makes routine adjustments to start or stop seasonal equipment.
•Adjust airflow, safety devices, and thermostats.
•Assist with the repairs of major HVAC equipment such as compressors, pumps, motors, and other related equipment under the supervision of a licensed HVAC technician.
•Completes preventative maintenance of equipment as assigned.
•Skilled in the use of power tools, hand tools, and meters.
•Knowledge of and experience with compliance with the Uniform Mechanical Code, related laws, and regulations.
•Basic understanding of diagnosis and troubleshooting techniques of commercial HVAC systems 25 tons and under.
•Basic understanding in troubleshooting, calibration, and repair of pneumatic and DDC control systems.
•Must have a working knowledge of computer systems regarding email, time entry, and work orders.
•Must be willing to respond to occasional after-hour emergencies.
•Assist other crafts as needed.
•Perform other duties as assigned.

Ability to communicate effectively (verbal); maintain emotional control under stress; interpret policy, procedures, and data; coordinate district functions.
Physical Demands/Environment Factors:
Strenuous walking, standing, climbing, and heavy lifting, must have use of all faculties. Must be able to work from ladders and elevated platforms. Work outside. Exposure to hot and cold temperatures. Exposure to dust, toxic chemicals, and materials. May work on slippery and uneven surfaces.
