WORK DESCRIPTION
•Carpenters build all types of structures, from residential housing to office buildings and factories to sports stadiums. Carpentry as a career may be just what you are looking for!
WORKING CONDITIONS
•Carpenters have fertile working conditions, and depending on your interests, you can choose your work environment. Interior finish carpenters spend most of their time indoors, while carpenters building bridges or large complexes will mainly work outdoors.
QUALIFICATIONS
•Graduated from high school and able to provide an official transcript or GED/HSED equivalent
•ACT Math score of 15 (within last 5 years) OR Next Gen Accuplacer score of 237 (within last 5 years) OR pass the local math assessment
•Possess a valid driver’s license or consistent means of transportation
APPLICATION PROCESS
1. Contact the nearest Training center to provide ACT or Next Gen Score OR make an appointment for testing.
2. Once you provide the documentation to the Training Center and meet the requirements, your Joint Apprenticeship Committee will provide you with instructions on how to proceed.
3. Locate an employer to hire you as an Apprentice. We can help with this!
4. Meet the Joint Apprenticeship Committee and sign your Apprenticeship Contract with the State of Wisconsin, Bureau of Apprenticeship Standards.
5. Begin work and school as soon as scheduled for you.
TERMS OF APPRENTICESHIP
Four-year program
160 hours of classroom instruction each year. Includes hands-on learning at North Central States Regional Training Centers located throughout WI. Lodging expenses may be paid for as part of the apprenticeship program.
A total of 6,240 hours of classroom learning and work experience.
Apprentices are paid during their entire four-year program, and incremental wage increases coincide with program completion.
