ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Must progress and successfully complete the GRU Electric Lineworker Apprentice Progression-Through-Training-Program (PTTP) which covers entry level apprentice to top of the journey level lineworker. Under direct supervision, constructs, maintains and repairs energized overhead and underground electric transmission and distribution systems up to 230,000 volts (230kv)
Under direct supervision, constructs, maintains and repairs de-energized overhead and underground electric transmission and distribution systems.
Hoists tools and materials to electric line workers on poles.
Installs conduit and other sub-surface electrical material using shovels and/or motorized excavation equipment.
Keeps crew truck cleaned and stocked with necessary parts and materials.
Performs work on unleveled surfaces, in aerial devices and climbs poles.
Use computers to:
Complete training modules
Enter data in work orders, time sheets, and other forms as needed.
Navigate and troubleshoot the electrical system through mapping software
Assisting in responding to electric system trouble calls.
After meeting PTTP training objectives you will be required to:
Splice and terminate primary and secondary cables.
Install and pull slack out of primary and secondary wires.
Build transformer banks and transformer platforms. Connect, disconnect, and replace service loops.
Place and replace underground conductors.
Sets pad-mounted transformers.
Inspects and locates trouble in transformers and electrical disturbance apparatus and replaces fuses and other defective parts.
Use meters and test equipment and correctly evaluate the results
Attends work on timely, continuous and regular basis.
NON-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
May be assigned to inspect poles and attachments.
May frequently chauffeur other employees, depending upon assignment and work location.
May be assigned to operate line construction equipment including digger derrick, bucket truck, trenchers, and backhoe.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job function satisfactorily. Below are the required education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma, and one (1) year of experience as an electric utility ground worker, utility line helper, or construction worker with experience working on aerial trucks or derrick trucks with ropes and rigging, or in an assignment that provided working knowledge of electric theory, wiring, tree trimming, pipe installation, or similar equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Persons hired into this classification must participate in the GRU Progression-Through-Training Program (PTTP) for the Electric Lineworker Apprentice classification.
CERTIFICATIONS OR LICENSES
Licenses
Valid Florida Driver License required at time of appointment and at all times while employed in this classification.
CDL class “A” instructional permit required at time of appointment.
CDL class “A” license with additional endorsements in Air Brakes/Combination Vehicles required within six (6) months of date of appointment.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Persons hired into this classification must participate in the GRU Progression-Through-Training Program (PTTP) for the Electric Lineworker Apprentice classification.
Fundamental working knowledge of computers to include data entry, navigation and basic use of mapping and training software.
Knowledge of materials and tools used in electrical line work.
Knowledge of occupational hazards and accident prevention methods in assigned area of responsibility.
Ability to understand and follow complex oral and written instructions.
Ability to work effectively with co-workers and the general public.
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must possess certain physical abilities and be able to withstand work related environmental conditions.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Work requires physical strength and agility sufficient to perform essential functions.
Must be able to safely work in and on equipment with designated safety restrictions.
Must have the ability to lift 80 pounds unassisted using proper lifting techniques.
Must have the physical ability to work perform work at elevations exceeding 150 feet by means of aerial lifts, ladders, stairs, and climbing wood and steel structures with appropriate gear.
Work frequently requires bending, kneeling, crawling, walking, standing, pushing, pulling and working at or above shoulder level.
Must be able to operate both light and heavy duty equipment after proper license and training is obtained.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work requires exposure to hazardous conditions and noxious chemicals/gases.
Will be required to work outdoors in varying climatic conditions, including, but not limited to, extreme heat, extreme cold, wind, and rain.
Work is subject to confined spaces such as manholes, vaults, trenches etc.
Position has on-call responsibilities as scheduled and generally available at other times, as needed. This includes, but is not limited to days, nights, weekends, holidays in all weather conditions and may be required to work during both planned and emergency response situations.
Must be able to meet GRU distance requirements of being able to be at the intersection of NW 34th Street and NW 39th Avenue within 40 minutes at 7p.m.
