Water Management seeks an experienced mechanic with strong working knowledge of water treatment and reclamation facilities or power plant systems and equipment.  Join our North Durham team and use your expertise and skills to conduct all scheduled preventative maintenance services on all mechanical systems equipment and components per manufactures recommendations and best operational practices. Use your knowledge to identify equipment maintenance needs and enter appropriate work orders into the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).  This role maintains preventative maintenance logs on all equipment and systems and works collaboratively with Plant Engineering and Maintenance staff to coordinate corrective maintenance activities.

Performs preventative and corrective mechanical maintenance; uses specialized equipment, tools, and machinery to repair and rebuild pumps, motors, gearboxes, and other equipment and facility components; and fabricates
•
Inspects, tests, and cleans equipment, alarms, and related equipment to ensure proper working condition and compliance with applicable safety and operating regulations, policies, and procedures. parts.
•
Performs office and operational support duties, such as receiving work orders, stocking vehicles with necessary supplies and tools for work, maintaining databases and records, cleaning and/or washing down the work area, performing emergency or on-call duties, maintaining inventory, answering phones, and training lower-level staff.
•
Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.
•
Positions assigned to lift stations may be responsible for: Performing preventative and corrective maintenance along with replacement of critical equipment of wastewater pumping stations including performing regular inspections and cleaning equipment.
•
High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED, HiSET, TASC)
•
Minimum of two years of related experience such as plant operations, equipment, tools & lubricants
•
Valid, unrestricted, North Carolina driver’s license “or” if you currently have another states driver’s license, must be willing and able to obtain a valid NC driver’s license within 60 days of hire
•
Additional on-the-job and/or safety-related certifications as required by the City.
•
Ability to read and interpret manuals, blueprints, written and oral instructions
•
Ability and willingness to work a rotation and serve standby / recall for emergencies often during inclement weather
•
Must obtain a North Carolina Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License and AWWA Maintenance Technologist Class 1 Certification within one year of hire to maintain employment.
•
Experience with various hand tools
•
The following certifications are preferred, if not required depending upon assignment:  North Carolina Wastewater Collections I certification, North Carolina Class A or B Commercial Driver’s and AWWA Maintenance Technologist I certification.
•
One-year experience with a CMMS program.
•
Experience in an industrial, manufacturing, or water utility setting.
•
OSHA Lock Out/Tag Out training
•
AWWA Maintenance Technologist
•
Grade I or II Wastewater Operator
•
Thorough knowledge and application of OSHA safety procedures/protocols
