Job description
Performs semi-skilled repair and maintenance work for the transportation department; does related duties as required.
Duties may include but not be limited to:
•
Performs routine preventive maintenance of equipment and vehicles and makes minor mechanical repairs
•
Maintain inventory of mechanic supplies in barns/van
•
Respond to accidents or mechanical breakdowns as needed
•
Inspect school buses regularly
•
Repair vehicles utilizing the work order process and ensure proper operation of all vehicles.
•
Perform a prescribed preventative maintenance program on the bus fleet and trucks and
automobiles implemented by the Transportation Coordinator/ Director
•
Maintain a variety of records, including vehicle identification, date, mileage, and nature of each inspection, maintenance, lubrication, and repair performed; then forward to Transportation Coordinator/Director
•
Run buses to the shop when corporation personnel is unable to provide the scope of service needed upon prior approval
•
Perform work in adherence to safe work practices and procedures and in compliance with applicable standards and specifications
•
Patch and install seat covers and other accessories on buses
•
Contribute to team efforts by communicating with the Transportation Coordinator/ Director
•
Follows weekly schedule provided by Transportation Coordinator/Director
•
Delivering supplies to each campus
•
Must be a team player and maintain open communication
•
Maintain positive personal image, and collaborative work ethic
•
Be present for state inspections (two per year)
•
Be available to respond to urgent requests outside of regular work hours
•
Other duties as assigned by the Transportation Coordinator/Director
Reports to: Transportation Coordinator/Director
Work Period: 20-25 hours weekly
Qualifications: Background in light repair/maintenance. Experience with DOT school bus inspection expectations and regulations. Holds or is willing to obtain a CDL with school bus, passenger and airbrake endorsements.
Physical/Mental Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, operate a computer, hand-held
Requirements: devices and other office equipment, reach with hands and arms, and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
