Position Summary
This position will perform a variety of tasks at an advanced level, skilled and semi-skilled in nature including occasional tasks at the tradesman level. This position is entrusted with a high level of responsibility. This position is responsible for advanced level maintenance, repair, installation, modification, and remodeling of heating, ventilating, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC/R) equipment, systems and controls including; boilers, chillers, split air conditioning systems, walk in coolers and freezers, ice machines, water heaters, humidity controlling equipment, etc., as well as, maintaining optimum climate in rooms designated as computer rooms and Control Centers throughout the Base. This position will also control heating and air conditioning systems, using the Building Automation computer system and monitor adjustments that are made. This position requires programming and installation knowledge of Honeywell, Automated Logic, Johnson Controls, Siemens, KMC, Trane, etc. DDC control systems. This position may need to coordinate at times with outside contractors, when necessary, to ensure the continued proper function of all heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration systems. This position will provide direction, training, instruction, supervision, and coordinate the work of other HVAC/R Specialists, Facility Maintenance Specialists, Temporary, or Limited Term Employees regarding mechanical, building maintenance, and HVAC/R tasks, repair work assignments, and / or projects, and may be required to function as a lead worker as well. The HVAC/Refrigeration Specialist - Advanced shall comply with all Department and Military administrative rules and agency policies and procedures.
Salary Information
Starting pay is between $27.91 and $32.21 per hour, depending on qualifications. This position is in the 03/15 pay schedule/range. A 12-month probation will be required

Job Details
In order to gain access to the military facilities and to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled, DMA will conduct a comprehensive background check.
In addition, the position requires a Common Access Card (CAC). A CAC requires successful completion of a Department of Defense investigation which is an additional more in-depth federal background check, for gaining access to federal computer systems, restricted locations, or classified information.
Must possess or be eligible to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license and meet the requirements of the State of Wisconsin Fleet Vehicle Policy to drive a state vehicle.
•State of Wisconsin Fleet Vehicle Policy:
•Must have a valid driver’s license
•Minimum of two year’s driving experience
•Must be 18 years of age or older
•Additionally, the driving record must not reflect the following conditions:
•Three or more moving violations (with point reductions) and/or at fault accidents in the past 2 years
•An OWI or DUI violation within the past 12 months
•A suspension or revocation of the driver’s license
Must possess or be eligible to obtain and maintain a Class B Commercial Driver’s license (CDL) with Air Brake endorsement within the first 6 months of employment at the employee’s own expense.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a military driver’s license as a condition of continued employment. You will be trained on specific vehicles and will receive assistance to obtain the licensure if you do not already possess.
Ability to perform duties under unpleasant, adverse conditions; such as in dusty and dirty areas or in extreme heat and/or cold, including confined spaces and the use of personal protective equipment, climbing, bending, lifting, working below grade, from uneven surfaces, from elevated levels possibly higher than 75 feet, etc., and the ability to perform lifting of up to 75 or more pounds.
The Department of Military Affairs does not sponsor work visas at the time of hire or anytime during employment. All persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and complete the required Employment Eligibility Form I-9.
This is a State of Wisconsin Civil Service position. The DMA does not require current or previous military experience.
All new permanent, project, and limited term employees will be required to report to Joint Force Headquarters (JFHQ) in Madison on the Monday of their first week of employment for the New Employee Orientation (NEO) program. Additional information will be sent to the new employees and their supervisors on the Tuesday prior to NEO.
Qualifications
Candidates who meet minimum qualifications will have:
•Experience working with HVAC/Refrigeration systems and equipment.
•Universal EPA Section 608 Technician Certification or ability to obtain within 6 months of employment.
•Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B or higher, with no restriction on air brakes or ability to obtain within 6 months of employment.
•Must possess or be eligible to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license and meet the requirements of the State of Wisconsin Fleet Vehicle Policy to drive a state vehicle.
In addition to the minimum qualifications, well qualified candidates may have experience with the following:
•Diagnosing and repairing commercial/industrial HVAC Systems such as repacking pumps and compressors, rebuilding steam traps, etc.
•Maintaining, installing and repairing such things as switches, outlets, fan motors, etc.
•Minor repairs and installation of items such as flow meters, flush valves, plumbing fixtures, etc.
•Programming and scheduling HVAC systems for maximum efficiency. Experience with troubleshooting and repairing Direct Digital Controls (DDC) systems.
