•Assures safe work practices are recognized and implemented on the job.
•Maintains a working knowledge and is responsible for learning these skills, under the guidance of a qualified employee and through applicable training: Learn how to identify voltages, learn what clearance points are, and safe work practices. Also, becomes familiar with reading and understanding print work.
•Works with Distribution Working Foreman to coordinate project and maintenance work.
•Assists, under direct guidance, in maintenance testing on distribution substation system equipment.
•Monitors work in progress and provides feedback in order to maintain schedules.
•Assists, under direct guidance, in operational tests of various types for the purpose of verifying proper operation of distribution substation protective relaying systems and solid-state controls.
•Reviews the specifications of newly acquired equipment and assists, under direct guidance, in operational check-outs and verifications of quality and quantity to make recommendations concerning equipment acceptability.
•Assists, under direct guidance, in SCADA checkout with the Communications Department.
•Maintains supporting software specific to distribution substation, distribution substation capacitor bank, and distribution substation meter point relaying and controls equipment including, but not limited to, SEL Accelerator Quickset, Cooper ProView, Doble Protection Suite, ApsenDB Relay Database.
•Assists, under direct guidance, in equipment calibrations on Doble test sets.
•Makes sketches, takes notes, draws graphs, completes reports, and provides any other raw data in order to gain a working familiarity in maintaining complete and accurate records about the installation, testing, repair, and maintenance of distribution substation relaying equipment and reports any abnormal or potentially dangerous conditions to the appropriate supervisor(s) in a responsible and timely fashion.
•Maintains a working familiarity with and assists, under direct guidance, in making approved field corrections to blueprints of distribution substation relaying and distribution control systems in order to verify proper installation and practicality; incorporates, under direct guidance, approved field corrections and modifications onto departmental blueprints and assures that departmental files are maintained with the latest revisions.
•Assists and observes that all assigned projects are performed within the specifications of Hoosier Energy’s general switching instructions and equipment clearance procedures; observes switching procedures, in order to gain knowledge and skills.
•Responsible for the proper utilization, maintenance, and security of assigned tools, test equipment, vehicles, and work areas.
•Reviews with and provides appropriate input to the Distribution Working Foreman or the Area Coordinator, Meter Relay and provides recommendations about practices, procedures, system requirements or improvements in order to facilitate maintenance schedules, short- or long-range plans, and any other efficiencies or cost improvements.
